Going Decaf? Hmph!

For those of you who know me, you know that I am a night owl and that I also work in Human Resources for a Dunkin Donut Franchise.

                                   Night Owling = Sleepy mornings/day

Dunkin Donut Job = Easy access to coffee

I must say though, that I am not a regular coffee drinker. I mean, the ladies in my office MUST have their coffee every morning OR ELSE! LOL

I am not like that. I drink coffee maybe once a week - if that. I don't even think that the coffee helps me to stay awake, I think its just a mind thing. LOL, but I do like the flavor/taste of coffee. Now for the past few days I have been feeling EXTREMELY tired and wanted to have some coffee (that's my mind playing tricks me, making me think that it will help), but I was able to make it through the day without it!

Today, once again, I woke up feeling like I wanted to have some coffee. Like, is it because I decided that I was going to cut back on caffeine that I'm getting these strong urges? Lol the mind and body are 2 weird (yet amazing) things!

In doing my pre-pregnancy research this is one of the things that I found on a pre-pregnancy checklist:
Cut back on caffeine. Limit the coffee you drink to no more than one 12-ounce cup of coffee each day. Remember, the amount of caffeine in coffee varies, depending upon the type of coffee, how it is prepared, and the amount of coffee used. Caffeine can also be found in soft drinks, medications and other foods. Try coffees and teas that are decaffeinated, or drink water, milk or juice. Be sure to read labels on food, drinks and medicine to know how much caffeine you're getting.
As if I don't check labels enough already! Lol I am a calorie counter/checker by nature. So although I don't drink coffee that much, I have decided to cut caffeinated coffee out and stick to decaf for now. So this morning on the way to work, to quench my coffee craving - I stopped to get a decaf cup.  I didn't get this reaction though! LOL (see pic below)

Have any of you considered this? What are your thoughts on cutting out certain things even before you become pregnant?

  1. I think starting to get in the habit of eating as if you're already pregnant is probably a great idea, to make things easier once your green bean starts sprouting :)

  2. I have one coke a day while preggers. There is a 1/4 of the caffine in one coke as in one cup of coffee. That way if I need a caffine/sugar pick-me-up in the afternoon, I can have a second coke with going over the daily caffine. My hardest part is the weight gain while preggars. I don't eat well normally (as in skip meals), so when I start eating more regularly I start packing it on.

I think starting cardio excercise before getting pregant and keeping it up during your pregnancy is key to the weight gain and your physical well-being.

Whew... That was a long one, LOL!

  3. I don't drink coffee. As we're approaching the idea of getting pregnant, I decided to stop taking in empty caolries. I don't drink juice anymore. I was a 100% juice drinker thinking I was doing something. But has all of the sugar/carbs/calories of fruit with none of the fiber. So I eat fruit and drink water. I've started trying to get used to eating breakfast, which I never did regularly. I'm also starting small on the exercise thing and will try to work my way up (I used to start big but end up quitting). Hope to hear a little green bean is sprouting soon.

  4. I cut out everything that you're not "supposed" to have the first 9 cycles of TTC our daughter. Switched to decaf, wouldn't use artificial sweetners, etc.......... And the ONE cycle that I forgot about all that stuff and didn't worry was the one cycle that we got pregnant!

I think that cutting back on those things can help narrow down problems if you're infertile or having infertility issues but for someone who is just starting out TTC, I honestly and truly think they're uneccessary. What I WOULD advise is starting an exercise regimen NOW. Not later, NOW. Because if you can get into a good habit, you can continue to exercise through your pregnancy and not end up fat and out of shape like I am now after giving birth!!! ;)

Also, get screened for immunities. I learned at my 24 week appointment that the Rubella immunity from the MMR vaccine I'd received as a child had almost worn off... So I ended up having to worry about it for the next 5-6 months and then getting a vaccine before I left the hospital after having Nellie.

Those are the two biggest things I'd advise for TTC. Everything else? In moderation, caffeine (and even alcohol) is fine IMO.

  7. I totally need to cut back caffeine...but it's how I survive. I don't drink obsessive amounts of it. but I know I need to knock some off. I am trying to do more excessive right now...with my brother & sister here it really motivates me to do that. Thanks for the follow!!

  9. When I was pregnant with my oldest I was super careful. Didn't drink coffee, soda, only water. I drank nothing with artificial sweetener unless it was just splenda. I cut out almost everything. It was crazy. With my second, I was a lot more lenient with myself. I didn't deprive myself of anything, just everything in moderation.

Following from Friday Follow. I hope you can find the time to stop by my blog and do the same! Have a fantastic weekend.
